-Nutmeg is the main flavor in these cookies, it's worth buying whole nutmeg and grating it yourself. -Lard is what my great-grandma used, but my family has used butter for years. I've made it both ways, and lard really does make a more delicate cookie.

Ingredients:
- 3 1/2 cups - Flour
- 2 teaspoons - Nutmeg
- 1/2 pounds - Lard
- 2 - Eggs
- 3/4 cups - Sugar
- 3 teaspoons - Baking Powder
- 1/2 cups - Currants Typically available in grocery stores during Christmas; available year-round on Amazon.
- 1/4 cups - Milk
- 3 1/2 cups - Flour
- 2 teaspoons - Nutmeg
- 1/2 pounds - Lard
- 2 - Eggs
- 3/4 cups - Sugar
- 3 teaspoons - Baking Powder
- 1/2 cups - Currants Typically available in grocery stores during Christmas; available year-round on Amazon.
- 1/4 cups - Milk
Directions:
Combine all ingredients. Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch and cut out 2-inch circles with a floured cookie cutter or glass. On a griddle, lightly brown on each side at low-medium heat.
