Number of Servings:
Ingredients:
- 12 - medium cooking apples (Golden Delicious or McIntosh) peeled, cored, and sliced - about 14 cups
- 2 cups - sugar
- 1/2 teaspoons - ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons - ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoons - ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoons - salt
Directions:
Place apples in a 5- or 6-quart slow cooker. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt.
Cover; cook on high for 4 hours. Stir. Uncover and cook on high for 2 to 2-1/2 hours more or until apples are very tender and most of the liquid has evaporated, stirring occasionally.
Cool mixture at least 1 hour or cover and chill overnight. Process with an immersion blender (or place half of mixture at a time into blender or food processor and process - may result in lighter color and thinner texture than immersion blender).
Ladle apple butter into half-pint freezer containers, leaving 1/2-inch headspace at the top. Seal and label. Store 1 week in the refrigerator or up to 1 year in the freezer.
