Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cups - shortening
  2. 1 1/2 cups - sugar
  3. 2 - eggs
  4. 2 tablespoons - cocoa
  5. 2 - bottles red dye
  6. 1/2 teaspoons - salt
  7. 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  8. 1 cups - buttermilk can use 1 cp milk w/ 1 tsp vinegar
  9. 2 1/2 cups - flour
  10. 1 1/2 teaspoons - baking soda
  11. 1 tablespoons - vinegar

Directions:

1. Cream shortening and sugar then add eggs.
2. Make paste of cocoa and food color. Add to mix.
3. Combine salt, vanilla, buttermilk.
4. Add to batter, alternate with flour.
5. Mix baking soda and vinegar, fold gently.
6. Pour batter into floured and greased pan.
7. Bake 350 for 35 min.
