Ingredients:
- 1 cups - butter softened
- 1 1/2 cups - sugar divided
- 4 - eggs
- 1 teaspoons - salt
- 8 cups - flour
- 3 packages - dry yeast
- 2 cups - lukewarm milk
Directions:
Put yeast in bowl; add warm milk, 1/4 cup of sugar and one cup of flour (stir well until yeast is no longer in lumps). Set aside to rise in a warm place about 10 minutes.
In another bowl, cream butter, remaining sugar and salt. Then add eggs. Mix well.
Add remaining flour and yeast mixture alternately (about in thirds). Mix well, adding only enough flour to knead. Knead until dough is smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes.
Grease bowl and pat grease on dough. Set aside in warm place until doubled in bulk, covered with a towel.
Shape bread as desired and place in greased oven-safe dish. Glue and cover with egg white.
Let dough rise again (about 1-1/2 hours or so).
Bake bread at 350° F for 35 minutes; time varies according to size of bread.
Directly out of oven, brush with melted butter.
