Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cups - butter or margarine
  2. 1 cups - sugar
  3. 1 - egg
  4. 1 tablespoons - milk
  5. 1 1/2 teaspoons - vanilla
  6. 1 3/4 cups - self-rising flour
  7. 1 cups - powdered sugar
  8. - juice from 1/2 a lemon
  9. 1 - egg white
  10. - colored sugar for sprinkling, if desired

Directions:

1. Melt butter or margarine.

2. Mix butter, sugar, egg, milk and vanilla.

3. Sift flour and add to mixture.

4. Put dough in refrigerator for 2 hours or more to chill.

5. Roll out the dough. Sprinkle flour on wax paper and on rolling pin to keep dough from sticking.

6. Cut dough out with cookie cutters. Bake in 300 degree F oven for 10 to 12 minutes.

You can decorate your cookies with a glaze after they are baked. Mix together the powdered sugar, lemon juice and egg white; spread over cookies and sprinkle with colored sugar.
