Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons - butter (OR margarine)
- 4 tablespoons - lard (OR margarine)
- 4 teaspoons - salt
- 4 tablespoons - sugar
- 2 cups - milk scalded
- 2 cups - boiling water
- 2 packages - yeast
- 1/4 cups - warm water
- 1 - egg slightly beaten, optional
- 12 cups - flour
Directions:
Combine butter and lard (or margarine) with salt and sugar. Place in a large bowl.
Over it pour the scalded milk and boiling water. Cool all until lukewarm.
Mix yeast with 1/4 cup of warm water and dissolve. Add to above mixture along with egg.
Stir in flour. Knead until smooth.
Let rise until double. Punch down and let rise again. Put in pans and let rise.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour. Makes 4 loaves.
