Number of Servings:
Ingredients:
- 1 packages - Yeast or (1 cube of compressed yeast)
- 1/4 cups - Water
- 2 cups - Milk scalded
- 1/4 cups - Butter/Margarine
- 2 tablespoons - Sugar
- 2 teaspoons - Salt
- 6 cups - Flour
- 1 tubs - Cinnamon & Sugar mix
- 1 sticks - Butter Melted (microwave)
- 1 cups - Cherries
- 1/2 cups - Nuts
- 1/2 cups - Raisins
Directions:
1. Sprinkle yeast over the 1/4 cup of warm water and let it stand for a few minutes, (for compressed yeast it needs to be crumbled into the water) then stir until dissolve.
2. Heat milk to a boil and pour over butter, salt and sugar in a large bowl.
3. Let the milk mixture cool and then add the yeast and water mixture.
4. Slowly stir in 3 cups of flour and beat until mixed.
5. Add 2 more cups of flour and use the final 1 cup of flour by sprinkling it over the flat surface before you dump the dough and begin the kneading process. Sprinkle the flour to keep dough from sticking. Keep working the dough until it is nice and smooth.
6. Put the dough in a buttered bowl and let it rise until it doubles in size and then punch it down and let it rise again.
7. During this last time that the dough is rising prepare your cinnamon and sugar, get raisins, cherries and nuts ready and remember to butter your pan.
8. Put the dough on the flat surface again with some flour and cut strips and cut the strips into little squares that you will shape like a ball.
9. Dip each ball in melted butter, cinnamon and sugar, add a few cherry pieces, nuts and raisins as you are placing the balls in the pan.
10. Let that rise and then bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Hopefully, it will be a nice light, golden brown. I check to see if it is done by lifting a ball and if its not too doughie...I consider it done. You don't want it to dry out.
