Ingredients:
- 1 bunches - Mint leaves
- 1 bunches - Coriander leaves
- 3 pieces - Coconut - sliced (or shredded)
- 3 pieces - Garlic(peeled)
- 1 pieces - Tamarind Size of a lemon soaked in water
- 5 pieces - Dry red chilles(vathal) Based on how spicy one wants
- - Urid dhal (ulunthu for tempering)
Directions:
1. Take the mint leaves and coriander leaves in equal proportions. (Coriander can be a little more than mint leaves). Wash them well and strain them.
2. In a pan, add some vegetable oil and then add urid dhal for tempering.
3. Once urid dhal turned light brown in color, add the dried red chilles, garlic. Saute it for a minute or so.
4. Add the soaked tamarind and then add coconut and saute it for sometime.
5. When the coconut is light brown, add the mint and coriander leaves. Saute them till the leaves are mushy.
6. Now turn the stove off, and let the mixture to cool down to room temperature.
7. Now grind the mixture with some salt.
Thovayal is ready!
