Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups - (500 mL) raw macaroni noodles
  2. 4 tablespoons - (50 mL) butter or margarine
  3. 1 tablespoons - (15 mL) dry onion flakes
  4. 3 tablespoons - (50 mL) all-purpose flour
  5. 1/2 teaspoons - (2 mL) salt
  6. 1/4 teaspoons - (0.5 mL) pepper
  7. 2 cups - (500 mL) milk
  8. 1 cups - (250 mL) shredded cheese
  9. 1 tablespoons - (15 mL) butter or margarine
  10. 1/2 cups - (125 mL) bread crumbs
  11. 1/4 cups - (50 mL) shredded cheese

Directions:

Cook macaroni as directed on package; drain and set aside.

Meanwhile, in medium-sized saucepan, melt butter. Stir in onions, flour, salt and pepper. Add milk. Cook and stir until sauce boils and thickens. Add cheese; stir to melt.

Combine with macaroni and pour into 2-quart (2L) casserole.

For Topping, in small saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat. Stir in bread crumbs until coated. Add cheese, stirring to distribute. Sprinkle over top of macaroni.

Bake in 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) oven for 30 minutes until hot and bubbly and cheese is melted.
