Ingredients:

  1. 2 1/4 teaspoons - active dry yeast
  2. 1 1/4 cups - warm water
  3. 1/4 cups - sugar
  4. 4 cups - all-purpose flour
  5. 1/4 cups - vegetable oil
  6. 1 teaspoons - salt
  7. 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  8. 1 - beaten egg
  9. 16 ounces - cream cheese
  10. 1 cups - sugar
  11. 1 - egg yolk
  12. 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  13. 2 1/2 cups - poppy seeds
  14. 1 1/2 teaspoons - lemon zest
  15. 3 tablespoons - unsalted butter
  16. 1/2 teaspoons - cinnamon
  17. 1/3 cups - sugar
  18. 3/4 cups - milk
  19. 1 - egg

Directions:

1. Mix yeast, water, and sugar in a large bowl. Let it rest for 10 minutes (bubbles will form).
2. Add remaining ingredients to the yeast mixture. Then stir in 4 cups of flour to make a sticky dough.
3. Knead until dough is no longer sticky.
4. Grease a mixing bowl, then place dough in bowl and roll it around so that all sides are lightly covered in oil. Cover bowl with a towel and place bowl in a warm place for the dough to rise for 30 minutes.
5. Punch down dough, knead 5 times, then let rise for another 30 minutes.
6. Pinch dough into eg-sized pieces. Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter and let rise for another 20 minutes.
7. Make an impression in the center of the dough and add filling of choice.
8. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!

Cream Cheese Filling:
1.Mix all together and refrigerate before filling pastries.

Poppy Seed Filling:
1. Heat milk, sugar, and butter together in a sauce pan.
2. Add poppy seeds, lemon zest, and cinnamon.
3. When mixture has cooled, whisk in egg.
4. Refrigerate till use.
