    Put the chocolate kiss in the cookies as soon as out of the oven to avoid splitting the half-baked cookie. When done baking, chocolate takes a long time to cool and firm.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 1/2 cups - All-Purpose Flour
  2. 1 teaspoons - Baking Soda
  3. 1/2 teaspoons - Salt
  4. 1/2 cups - Vegetable Shortning
  5. 1/2 cups - Granulated Sugar
  6. 1/2 cups - Light Brown Sugar packed
  7. 1/2 cups - Peanut Butter
  8. 1 - Large Egg
  9. 1 teaspoons - Vanilla Extract
  10. - Granulated Sugar for rolling
  11. 36 - Chocolate Kisses

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream the vegetable shortning and the two sugars. Beat in the peanut butter. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
Pinch off walnut-sized pieces of the dough and roll into balls. Roll the balls in granulated sugar and place 1 inch part on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 6-8 minutes until just starting to color. Quickly press a chocolate kiss into the center of each ball and return to the oven for 3 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
