Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cups - milk
  2. 1 tablespoons - sugar
  3. 2 packages - yeast
  4. 1 1/2 cups - butter (no substitute)
  5. 1 cups - sugar
  6. 6 - eggs
  7. 2 cups - milk
  8. 1 tablespoons - salt
  9. 1 packages - 15 oz. light raisins
  10. 1 cups - slivered almonds
  11. 1 teaspoons - almond extract
  12. 1 teaspoons - lemon extract
  13. 12 cups - all-purpose flour or a little more or less, as needed
  14. 2 - eggs beaten

Directions:

Heat milk (I heated it for 30 seconds in a measuring cup in the microwave).

Add sugar and yeast to the warm milk.

In another bowl, combine butter and sugar; cream thoroughly. Add one egg at a time to butter mixture.

Add yeast mixture, milk, salt, raisins, almonds and extracts mix well.

Add enough flour to knead. Knead until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm spot until dough rises to 2x its size (approx. 1-1 ½ hours).

Divide the dough into 9ths. Roll each piece into a rope 12 inches long- about the size of a baking sheet. Braid three ropes together on a greased baking sheet.

Cover & let rise again, for about 30-45 minutes.

Brush with beaten egg. Each braid should be on its own baking sheet.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
