Find pomegranate molasses at Middle Eastern groceries; balances the sweetness of the cider with its deep, tangy flavor. Can be omitted, if desired.

Ingredients:
- 3 quarts - apple cider
- 4 cups - pomegranate-cranberry juice
- 1 cups - pomegranate molasses
- 4 - cinnamon sticks
- 4 - pods star anise
- 2 - oranges, thinly sliced
- 2 - apples, cored and thinly sliced
- 1 cups - brandy (optional) for serving
Directions:
In a medium saucepan heat the apple cider, cranberry juice, and pomegranate molasses over medium heat until steaming. Add the cinnamon sticks and star anise; remove from heat. Add orange and apple slices. Cool for 2 hours.
Cover and refrigerate for up to 5 days. Add brandy, if desired (add brandy to the entire batch or just to half - leaving some nonalcoholic for the kids and others).
Serve chilled, or warm in a slow cooker before serving.
