Number of Servings:
Ingredients:
- 1 cups - all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoons - cracked black pepper
- 3/4 teaspoons - seasoned salt such as Lawry's
- 1/4 teaspoons - garlic powder optional
- 1 pounds - beef cube steaks
- 1/3 cups - olive oil
- 2 cups - low-sodium beef broth
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Mix the flour, black pepper, seasoned salt, and garlic powder together in a shallow bowl; set aside 3 tablespoons of the mixture in a small bowl. Coat steaks thoroughly with the remaining mixture.
3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and pan-fry the cube steaks until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. (Best to do 2 steaks at a time, or whatever will keep the pan from being too crowded, so the steaks will cook well).
4. Place the steaks into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Whisk the reserved seasoned flour into the beef broth until smooth, and pour the broth over the steaks. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake until the meat is tender and the gravy has thickened, about 1-1/2 hours.
To double the amount of gravy, use 4 cups of broth, and reserve 5 tablespoons of the flour mixture instead of just 3.
