Ingredients:
- 8 cups - Tomato sauce (2 qts.)
- 1 cans - 6-oz. Tomato paste
- 1/3 cups - Honey
- 2 teaspoons - Salt
- 2 tablespoons - Fresh minced garlic
- 1 1/2 teaspoons - Dried thyme
- 2 teaspoons - Dried basil*
- 2 teaspoons - Dried oregano
- 1 1/2 teaspoons - Dried or fresh rosemary
- 3 whole - Large bay leaves
- 3 tablespoons - Oil
- 2 whole - Medium onions Coarsley chopped
- 2 whole - Green bell peppers Coarsley chopped
- 2 whole - Zucchini Sliced lengthwise, then into quarter-inch thick half-rounds
- 1 pounds - Lean ground beef
- 1/2 pounds - Spicy pork or chicken sausage**
- 1 packages - 1-lb. pkg. spaghetti
- - Pepper, to taste
- - Parmesan cheese For garnish
Directions:
1. Put tomato sauce, tomato paste, honey, salt, garlic, thyme, basil, oregano, rosemary and bay leaves into a large pot or crock pot. Stir well and cook on low heat.
2. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat and saute onion and bell pepper until onions start to caramelize. Add to sauce.
3. Briefly saute zucchini and add to sauce, or add to sauce raw.
4. Cook ground beef and sausage. Drain fat and add meat to sauce.
5. Bring to simmer and cook at least 3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Can be cooked overnight in crock pot.
6. Adjust salt, to taste.
7. Prepare spaghetti according to pkg. directions. Serve sauce over pasta with freshly ground black pepper and Parmesan cheese.
