Chocolate Sheet Cake

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups - sugar
  2. 2 cups - flour
  3. 1/2 cups - margarine
  4. 1/2 cups - shortening
  5. 1 cups - water
  6. 4 tablespoons - unsweetened cocoa
  7. 1/2 cups - buttermilk
  8. 2 - eggs
  9. 1 teaspoons - baking soda
  10. 1 teaspoons - salt
  11. 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  12. 1 sticks - margarine
  13. 4 tablespoons - unsweetened cocoa powder
  14. 6 tablespoons - milk
  15. 4 cups - powdered sugar
  16. 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  17. 1 cups - Chopped nuts Optional

Directions:

Sift sugar and flour together.

In a saucepan, combine margarine, shortening, water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil. Pour hot boiled mixture over flour mixture. Add the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, salt and vanilla, mixing well.

Pour into a greased 11x15-inch baking pan (or two 8x8-inch square pans -- though bakes better as sheet cake). Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.

Icing: Combine butter, cocoa, and milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the sifted powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts, mixing until smooth. Spread over cake while both the cake and icing are still hot.

Allow to cool before serving.
