- 1 cups - water
- 1 cups - chopped dates
- 1 cups - shortening
- 1 cups - sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 1 teaspoons - vanilla
- 3/4 cups - flour
- 1/2 teaspoons - salt
- 1 teaspoons - baking soda
- 2 teaspoons - cocoa
- 1 cups - chopped nuts divided
- 1 cups - chocolate chips divided
- - powdered sugar for topping
Bring water to a boil in sauce pan; add dates and set aside to cool.
Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add date mixture.
Combine flour, salt, baking soda and cocoa; gradually add to egg mixture.
Stir in 1/2 cup of nuts and 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. Pour into greased and floured 9-x-13-inch baking pan.
Sprinkle remaining nuts and chocolate pieces on top.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 40 minutes. Remove from oven and dust with powdered sugar.
