Caramel Cheese Frosting

  1. 1/4 cups - butter or margarine
  2. 1/2 cups - C&H Golden Brown Sugar firmly packed
  3. 1/8 teaspoons - salt
  4. 3 tablespoons - milk
  5. 3 ounces - cream cheese softened
  6. 3 cups - sifted C&H Powdered Sugar


Melt butter in small saucepan; stir in brown sugar and salt. Bring to a boil and boil hard for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and add milk, stirring vigorously.

Return to heat and bring to a full boil again. Set aside to cool about 15 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese and 2 cups of powdered sugar. Blend in cooked mixture. Add remaining sugar and beat until smooth and cool enough to spread.

If frosting stiffens too quickly while spreading, beat in a few drops of milk.

Frosts top and sides of two 8 or 9-inch layers.
