Number of Servings:
Ingredients:
- 1 bags - 17.5 oz sugar cookie mix
- 1/4 cups - butter melted
- 1 - large egg
- 1/3 cups - cream cheese softened
- 1/2 cups - all-purpose flour plus additional flour for working surface
- 1 teaspoons - red food coloring
- 1 1/2 teaspoons - peppermint extract
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325° F. Line baking sheets with parchment; set aside.
2. In a bowl, combine cookie mix, melted butter, egg, cream cheese and 1/2 cup flour. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer to form a dough. Divide into 2 equal portions and place in 2 separate bowls.
3. Gradually add red food coloring to 1 bowl of dough, kneading until desired shade of red is achieved.
4. Add peppermint extract to remaining bowl of dough, kneading to combine.
5. On a floured work surface, shape each dough into 1-1/2 inch balls. Roll balls into 1/4-inch wide ropes, each about 6 inches long. For each cookie, carefully twist 1 red rope and 1 white rope of dough together and shape into a candy cane. Place candy canes on prepared baking sheets.
6. Bake on the top rack of the oven for 12 to 14 minutes; let cool before serving.
