I use pecans for this recipe but walnuts would work as well. Grandma said she sometimes uses allspice in place of the cloves but I have always used cloves.

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cups - Applesauce
- 2 1/4 cups - Flour
- 1/2 teaspoons - Baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoons - Salt
- 3/4 teaspoons - Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoons - Cloves
- 1 cups - Raisins, seedless
- 1/2 cups - Nuts, pecans or walnuts chopped
- 3/4 cups - Crisco shortening
- 1 cups - Light brown sugar packed
- 1 - Egg
Directions:
In large bowl mix together shortening and light brown sugar. Add egg and applesauce; mix well. In medium bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir into applesauce mixture. Fold in raisins and chopped nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees F.
