Ingredients:
- 2/3 cups - sugar or more, if desired
- 1/2 teaspoons - cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoons - nutmeg
- 4 - large apples (tart) peeled, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons - water
- 2 tablespoons - lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons - butter or margarine
- 1/2 cups - firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cups - butter softened
- 1 cups - all-purpose flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
For Filling:
In large bowl combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add apples; sprinkle with water and lemon juice, and toss until evenly coated.
Spoon into a 9-inch deep dish pie pan (without pastry). Dot with butter.
Crumb Topping:
Cream together sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add flour and stir until smooth. Daub on top of apples.
Bake 50 to 60 minutes. Serve warm (plain or with ice cream, whipped cream or cheese).
