Slow Cooker Mulled Wine

Ingredients:

  1. 2 bottles - (750 mL) red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon
  2. 1/2 cups - brandy
  3. 1/2 cups - maple syrup
  4. 4 whole - cloves
  5. 2 whole - star anise pods
  6. 2 - cinnamon sticks (3-inch)
  7. - peel of 1/2 orange, white pith removed
  8. - optional garnishes: cinnamon sticks, star anise pods, orange peel or slices, cranberries

Directions:

Combine all ingredients, except garnishes, in a slow cooker. Stir together in a 3- to 4-quart slow cooker, and heat on LOW for 1 hour, or until hot.
