Mom's recipe used 1 cup of sugar which made it more of a sweet bread. This is more of a regular bread. If you want it as a sweet bread, simply increase the sugar. This recipe is quite easy to do. If you aren't sure how to use knives to cut in butter, give me a ring.

Ingredients:
- 4 cups - flour
- 1 tablespoons - baking powder
- 1 teaspoons - baking soda
- 1 teaspoons - salt
- 1/4 cups - white or brn sugar
- 1 1/2 cups - buttermilk alternate is soured milk [combine fresh milk w 1 tblspn vinegar]
- 2 - eggs
- 1/4 cups - butter or margarine
- 1 cups - raisins
- 1 tablespoons - caraway seeds optional but is tasty
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. grease bottom of heavy round pan like a cast iron skillet or pie plate.
Combine all dry ingredients.
Cut in butter or margarine until it's like course crumbs. Use a pastry cutter or 2 knives.
Add raisins and caraway seeds.
Whisk or beat together eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
Add to flour mixture. Dough will be crumbly. Dust yoour hands with flour and pat the dough into a round loaf. It's ok if it looks shaggy. Don't try to overmix. Don't try to press it into the sides of the pan.
Cut a deep cross into the top with a sharp knife. Bake for 50 min.
Cool 5 min before removing from pan.
