Number of Servings:
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cups - Buttermilk
- 1 - Large Egg
- 3 cups - Flour
- 4 teaspoons - Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoons - Baking Soda
- 1/2 teaspoons - Salt
- 1 sticks - Cold, unsalted Butter cut into cubes
- 1 teaspoons - Orange Peel grated
- 1/2 cups - Granulated Sugar
- 1 cups - Cranberries thaw if frozen
Directions:
Heat oven to 375°. Add egg to buttermilk and beat in egg with fork in small bowl, set aside.
Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add 8 tablespoons butter and cut in with a pastry blender, until mixture looks like fine granules. Add cranberries, sugar, and orange peel; toss lightly to distribute evenly. Add buttermilk mixture. Stir with a fork until a soft dough forms.
Turn out dough onto a lightly floured board and knead lightly, just to mix well. Form dough into a ball, cut into 8 wedges. Form each wedge into a ball and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until medium brown. Brush with soft butter, if desired. Cool, uncovered, for 1 hour before serving.
Serve with jams or jellies.
