Making French Toast

  1. Butter or spray with cooking spray an electric griddle and heat it to 350 degrees F.  Or use a nonstick skillet or stove top griddle instead.
  2. Whisk together 6 eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract and a pinch of salt in a shallow dish until ingredients are well mixed.
  3. Cut 1 loaf of challah bread (or try something like raisin swirl or brioche) into 3/4-inch thick slices (a one pound loaf should make about 12 slices).
  4. Place bread slice into egg mixture; using a spatula, flip bread slice over and gently press into liquid.  
  5. Lift slice gently from liquid and allow excess liquid to drip back into the dish; transfer slice to the heated griddle.
  6. Cook 2 minutes until bottom is lightly browned; flip, and cook about 2 more minutes.
  7. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve with maple syrup (cinnamon infused maple syrup is especially delicious).
