Crispy Tortilla Strips


Make your own crispy tortilla strip garnishes for soup or salad.

  1. Slice a stack of corn tortillas in half, then into 1/2-inch slices cross-wise.
  2. Heat some oil in a nonstick skillet (about 1/4-inch deep) until hot enough that a drop of water dropped in will make the oil sizzle.
  3. Drop a few strips of tortilla in at a time and cook 2-4 minutes until lightly browned; remove from skillet with slotted spoon or spatula and place on paper towel to drain.
  4. Sprinkle with salt and chili powder (or other preferred seasonings).
  5. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

If you prefer to bake the strips instead (they will not be as crispy):

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Toss tortilla strips with a little bit of olive oil and spread out evenly on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 4-8 minutes until lightly browned; sprinkle with salt and chili powder (or preferred seasoning) and allow to cool.
  4. Store same as above in an airtight container for up to a week.
