  • 1 cups - Thinly sliced onion
  • 3 tablespoons - Vegetable or canola oil
  • 4 cans - 14 to 16-oz. cans tomatoes
  • 3 cans - (or 4) 14 1/2-oz. can kidney beans
  • 4 tablespoons - Chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons - Sugar
  • - Salt, to taste
  • - Pepper, to taste
  • 4 whole - Garlic cloves, Peeled
  • 10 strips - Bacon
  • 2 pounds - Ground round
  • Directions:

    Saute onion in the oil until tender. Add tomatoes, beans, chili powder, sugar, salt, pepper & garlic.

    Fry bacon until crisp. Remove bacon, crumble and reserve. Brown ground round in the bacon drippings.

    Add the meat to the tomato mixture. Add the crumbled bacon and simmer about 2 hours.

    Remove the garlic cloves and serve.
