  • 4 teaspoons - milk, for glaze
  • 1/2 teaspoons - vanilla extract, for glaze

  • Directions:

Mix flour, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on med speed until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually stir in flour mixture until well mixed. Refrigerate 1 hr or until firm.
Roll out dough to 1/8 in thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place on greased baking sheets.
Bake in preheated 375°F oven for 8-10 mins or until lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets 1 min. Remove wire racks, cool completely.
Dip top of cookies into prepared glaze. Place cookies on wire rack set over foil-covered baking sheet to dry. For decorative details, spoon tinted glaze into resealable plastic bag. Snip a small corner from bag. Pipe designs onto cookies.
Glaze: mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Thin glaze with additional mild or thicken with confectioners' sugar. Divide glaze into small shallow bowls, using one bowl for each color desired. Stir drops of food color into glaze until desired shade is reached.
