Spice-and-Citrus Mulled Wine Tell a Friend

  • 1 bottles - (750 ml) dry red wine
  • 1/2 cups - light brown sugar
  • 4 sticks - cinnamon
  • 16 whole - allspice
  • 16 whole - cloves
  • - 4 x 1" strip of orange zest
  • 1 cups - orange-flavored liqueur or brandy
  • 4 - cinnamon sticks, for garnish
  • 4 strips - orange zest, for garnish
  • Directions:

    Combine wine and brown sugar in a medium-size enamel or stainless steel sauce pan. In a 6" square of cheesecloth, tie 4 cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, and orange zest. Add spice bag to wine mixture. Bring just to boiling. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove spice bag with tongs and discard. Stir in liqueur or brandy. Pour into mugs. Garnish each with cinnamon sticks wrapped with orange zest.
