  • 8 ounces - spaghetti
  • 4 - cooking onions (or large Vidalia), chopped
  • 2 tablespoons - to 4 tbsp. butter
  • 4 stalks - celery, chopped
  • 1 1/2 pounds - ground beef (I mix lean and medium)
  • 20 ounces - canned tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoons - salt
  • 1/2 teaspoons - pepper
  • 1 tablespoons - sugar, honey or maple syrup
  • - fresh basil leaves or dried basil, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups - grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • Directions:

Cook pasta al dente – then drain.

Saute onion, celery and add ground beef until browned.

Add tomatoes, salt & pepper, sugar & fresh basil and simmer for 15 minutes.

Use one large casserole dish or separate into two; add spaghetti and grated cheddar cheese together with seasoned tomato sauce and mix well. I usually add extra cheddar on top.

Bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees F.

This can be frozen, being sure to seal it well.
