Rich Beef and Tomato Ragout Tell a Friend

  • 1 - onion, peeled, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves - garlic, peeled, finely chopped
  • 1 - red chili, deseeded, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoons - ground cinnamon
  • 1 3/4 pounds - extra lean ground beef
  • 1 cups - grape tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cans - 14 oz. chopped tomatoes
  • 2 3/4 cups - rutabaga, peeled, cut in bite-size pieces
  • 1 tablespoons - beef bouillon
  • 8 tablespoons - finely chopped basil
  • - salt and pepper
  • - basil leaves, to garnish
  • - cooked rice or noodles, for serving with
  • Directions:

    Spray a large non-stick skillet with Pam cooking spray and place over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and red chili and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.

    Add the cinnamon and ground beef and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes longer; drain away any excess liquid. Stir in the tomatoes, rutabaga, bouillon, and chopped basil and bring to a boil.

    Season well, cover tightly and cook over low heat for 20-25 minutes.

    Garnish with basil leaves if desired. Serve with rice or noodles.
