  • 22 slices - bread
  • 6 whole - eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups - milk
  • 1 tablespoons - vanilla
  • 1 tablespoons - cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoons - nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons - butter
  • 1/2 cups - brown sugar
  • Directions:

    1. Slice all your bread into one inch cubes. Once all the bread is sliced, place into a greased 13x9inch baking pan.
    2. Mix together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla in a large bowl. Whisk until all ingredients are incorporated. Pour the liquids evenly over the bread mixture in the pan. Press down slightly onto the bread to make sure the bread is absorbing the liquid.
    3. Cover and allow the casserole to chill in the fridge for at least 4-6 hours or overnight.
    4. When you are ready to bake, remove the casserole from the fridge. Combine the butter and brown sugar in a separate bowl. It is best to cut the butter into very small pieces before mixing with the brown sugar. If you have a pastry cutter or even a fork, this works best to create the brown sugar and butter crumble.
    5. Crumble the brown sugar and butter mixture evenly over the top of the french toast casserole.
    6. Cover the casserole with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes. Then remove the foil from the casserole and bake an additional 15-25 minutes. To check that the casserole is done, a toothpick or cake tester when inserted into the middle should come out clean,
    7. Once cooked, remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve with your favorite french toast addition, or simply enjoy as is.
