Ingredients:

Cake
  • 2 cups - sugar
  • 2 cups - flour
  • 1/2 cups - margarine
  • 1/2 cups - shortening
  • 1 cups - water
  • 4 tablespoons - unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 cups - buttermilk
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoons - baking soda
  • 1 teaspoons - salt
  • 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  • Icing
  • 1 sticks - margarine
  • 4 tablespoons - unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons - milk
  • 4 cups - powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoons - vanilla
  • 1 cups - Chopped nuts, Optional
  • Directions:

    Sift sugar and flour together.

    In a saucepan, combine margarine, shortening, water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil. Pour hot boiled mixture over flour mixture. Add the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, salt and vanilla, mixing well.

    Pour into a greased 11x15-inch baking pan (or two 8x8-inch square pans -- though bakes better as sheet cake). Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.

    Icing: Combine butter, cocoa, and milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the sifted powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts, mixing until smooth. Spread over cake while both the cake and icing are still hot.

    Allow to cool before serving.

    Brief Description

    Moist chocolate sheet cake with icing spread over top while still hot. Yummy!
