Our Favorite Fall Recipes {Soups, Crockpot, Pumpkin, Oh My}

Favorite Fall Recipes | DishDish Recipe Box

When the first day of fall finally come around and the temperatures actually start to cool down around here (in Texas), it’s exciting to start putting together menus for the coming weeks that contain more cold-weather options, fall vegetables, and flavors like pumpkin, apple and gingerbread.

So we thought we’d share a few of our favorite fall recipes with you and your family!

I have to admit that I generally prefer my pumpkin in dishes that are sweet, but there are several soups with pumpkin that are fabulous, too, such as this Pumpkin and Tomato Soup Recipe. It starts with freshly chopped pumpkin cubes, tomato paste, and broth with ginger and basil for seasoning; just puree until smooth after cooking the pumpkin ’til tender, and voila – a nice creamy soup for your fall evening emerges.

Here’s another wild soup recipe for your group to try. This one has instructions for making your own tomatillo salsa for adding to the chili, or you could simplify things and use store-bought salsa for a quicker version of this Chili Verde with Sausage and Pumpkin (or use butternut squash, if you prefer). Sausage, hominy, and diced squash combine with spicy seasonings for a hearty fall soup dish that is ready in about 45 minutes (if using store-bought salsa).

If you love the taste of pumpkin, but are looking for a sweet dessert that’s a little healthier, try out this recipe for tempting Healthy Pumpkin Whoopie Pies shared by our friends over at Groovy Beets.

And now if you’re saying “Enough pumpkin, already!” — then check out this easy crockpot soupTurkey Sausage Soup with Fresh Vegetables. It’s loaded with turkey sausage, carrots, zucchini, green beans, peppers, onion, and seasonings for a hearty stew-like soup. Yummy! (Photo by Elli O. on Unsplash)

Lastly for today, here’s an easy Apple Dumplings dessert recipe using store-bought pie crust (in case you don’t want to take the time to make your own) wrapped around apple halves with cinnamon and sugar and baked; topping it off is a deliciously sweet caramel drizzle (homemade while the apples bake).

Make the Most of Your Bread Machine Using These Tips

Bread Machine Tips \ DishDish Online Cookbook

guest sponsored post

Using a bread machine can be a bit strange at first. However, once you get used to the process, you won’t be able to live without it. We have prepared a couple of tips and tricks which should help you enjoy your bread machine even more. More kitchen secrets can be seen on bestkitchen.pro.

Make sure you add the ingredients in the right order

You shouldn’t put in the ingredients at random, and it is essential that you follow the recipe. If your recipe doesn’t offer you enough information about the order of the ingredients, here is a simple rule that you can follow: yeast and liquids should be added first, then the dry ingredients, with salt on top of them, and finally butter on top.

When you put in the butter make sure that it is cut up and soft. You should place it in wells, or indentations that exist in the corner of the basket.

Regular yeast is just as good

Many people stay away from bread machines because they are not willing to buy bread machine yeast. The costs are too high, especially if you use the bread machine on a regular basis.

Nonetheless, bread machine yeast is not necessary. You can replace it with regular yeast, and there won’t be much of a difference. Buying regular yeast in bulk can help you save a lot of money. Even if you are not really sure about this, you should try using regular yeast at least once and see if you can tell a difference.

We should also add that you must pull the basket when you are adding your ingredients. This way, if you spill anything you won’t have to clean the inside of your machine as well.

Adding extra ingredients

It is always great to add a bit of extra flavor, and you can use cheese, spices, nuts or other ingredients for that. You should sprinkle these ingredients only when your ball is already forming. Wait until the dough ball almost forms and add the ingredient you want while the bread continues to mix.

Be careful

The bread will be very hot when it is done, and so will the basket. Don’t try to touch the handle of the basket without protection because you will end up burning your fingers. When your bread is done, you should unplug the machine and open the lid. Wait until the loaf cools off before removing it.

You should also keep in mind that the loaf shouldn’t remain in there for too long. If the bread stays in the machine for too much time, there is a chance that moisture will begin to collect on the bottom of the loaf and could start to make it soggy.

When you’re also trying to get kids out the door for school or activities, it can feel nigh on impossible at times.

But don’t give up on that healthy breakfast idea just yet! These easy breakfast recipes are so simple even the kids can help make them, and you can pull these dishes out of the fridge for a quick, healthy breakfast in no time.

Make-ahead overnight oats recipes are a great way to serve up a healthy breakfast with very little effort. Start the night before (let the kids help) and pick out the ingredients each person wants to add to their oats, layer it all in a glass jar or dish and set in the fridge, all ready for you to eat in the morning.

Oats are such a healthy way to start the day – gluten-free and packed with antioxidants, healthy fiber, protein and vitamins and minerals. They’re great for helping reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels, as well as encouraging good bacteria in the digestive tract.

Whichever mix-ins you choose, be sure to use whole rolled oats for the dish and not quick or minute oats, as they’ll get pretty soggy in a dish like this.
